This has been the most amazing year for my family. Not only did we find out I was pregnant and go on to welcome our healthy and absolutely gorgeous baby girl #2 in September, but we also celebrated our firstborn turning 2 and took an amazing beach vacation to Marco Island, Florida. Taking our toddler to the beach was an amazinginly fun experience that we will never forget; and, thanks to Shutterfly.com, we won't have to! (I make photo books for everything.) The first time Olivia put her little toes in the sand and got to be taken out into the ocean (the life jacket was a fail); and the joy that shined through on her face was priceless. It was a pretty big deal financially for us to pay for a beach vacation but the memories that we will always cherish made it all worth it.
And then there was the birthday party. Oh the birthday party! Our extremely verbal, highly opinionated now 2-year old had it all planned out. Birthday party at the farm, with her friends and a tractor cake (it was originally a pony cake but this option was it available). Being able to make her birthday dreams come true was a magical experience for us. We wanted to celebrate her turning 2 just as much as she did; maybe more! I mean shoot, we had, not only, kept a tiny human alive or 2 years, but we lived to tell the tale! Yay parenting!
And last, of course, there's our sweet Addison. My pregnancy was amazing (until the last few weeks where I just felt like a giant blob...but no illness) and I was able to keep up with my 2-year old all summer long. Following an awesome summer of fun with my Olivia, I returned to work ready to have Addison any day. Addison had other plans; she wanted to cook as long as possible. As the days rolled by I realized that if Addison made it to her due date, we could spend even more time together as my maternity leave would end right before my school district's winter break started which meant that we could spent the remainder of 2016 together. Addison thought she needed more time with her momma too so, on September25th, the day after her due date, she decided to make her appearance. After a mere 36 minutes at the hospital, the happiest and easiest baby that I have ever known arrived. She is perfect and continues to be just what our little family needed. I am so in love with both of my girls and can't even begin to recall life without them.
So 2017, I don't expect nor desire any life-changing experiences. I just hope that I can continue to grow in my love for my husband and my baby girls. I also hope for continued patience and strength to deal with whatever speed bumps might arise. In fact I hope for some of those speed bumps as they challenge me to continue to grow and learn from them. So, on that note, I say bring it on 2017!
