Four months ago I gave birth to our 2nd baby girl who, might I add, is the most perfect newborn in the entire world (yes, it is possible that I am biased). However, carrying her and birthing truly had a great impact on my body. As with many other moms that I have talked to, with your 1st baby you tend to "bounce back" a little sooner, but after that it can take months or even years. With needing the extra time to get back your pre-pregnancy body, there are some modifications to your wardrobe that you will have to make, especially if you have a job that requires you to look professional on a daily basis. Here is a list of my top 6 post-partum wardrobe essentials:
- 1. A Sturdy Nursing Bra
By "sturdy" I mean comfortable, yet supportive. If you are not nursing, then it does not have to have the nursing drop-down factor, allowing one to continuously whip out their chest, but all women will need some sort of support after having a baby. For my fellow nursing mommas, I am obsessed with Panache's "Sophie Wire-Free Nursing bra." It is so comfy and effective, but also has a lace overlay so that you still feel somewhat cute. This bra can be found here:
- 2. A Long Cami
I have always loved wearing a camisole under most of my tops; however, this helps even more with the smoothing down of the postpartum "pouch" (as I like to call it). When layeringing, I feel like it is not as noticeable to that there is still extra weight in the stomach region as it is when only wearing one sure. I absolutely love JCPenney's "Arizona Favorite Solid Cami without Shelf Bra." Although they don't speak specifically not their cami as being long, it tends to be a good length for layering. It is also important to grab the Cami without the shelf as it is highly likely that your boobs will no longer fit on to the cami "shelf" with the whole milk situation making them huge and all. These can be found here:
- 3. Spanx Tights
Spanx is an awesome brand that helps women everywhere look their best whether they have recently given birth or not. On days where I am not feeling likeI look the best, I like to throw on a pair of these tights and a dress and just like that I look fancy! My favorite pair are the "High-Waist Shaping Tights" which can be found here:
- 4. Leggings with a Wide Waistband
Leggings are necessary for everyone's wardrobe. However, because my body has not quite bounced back, I tend to choose my Soma "Slimming Leggings" over my other ones as they offer support in the waist. An added bonus is that I was able to wear these throughout most of my pregnancy as they are super stretchy! I am so grateful that a co-work (whom I miss dearly) introduced these to me last year! These leggings can be found here:
- 5. A Forgiving Dress (or 2)
As a working mom, when my maternity leave ended my body was so not ready to be shoved into my pre-pregnancy work pants or skirts and I absolutely could not wear my casual Friday pair of jeans. I had to figure out a way to look professional but also feel good about myself. To achieve this I stocked up on flowy cotton dresses that I could throw over my slimming leggings or tights. Not only do I get loads of compliments on how nice I look, but an added bonus is that it is quick for me to toss one of these on, leaving me more time to get my 2 ladies dressed and ready for daycare. One of my favorites is my "Nicoletta Floral Dress with Contrast Panel" (I have a green version) which can be found here:
- 6. A Solid Cardigan
Another common work staple is the cardigan. Most likely you already have one of these lying around; however, they can come in really handy when wearing an eye-catching printed top or dress that might overly accentuate your milk-filled chest region. I have found if I throw a cardigan over what I'm already wearing it makes me feel a little more comfortable and can provide a minimizing look. I love Target's "Merona Women's Favorite Cardigan" which can be found here:
